Authentic Maharashtrian Crab Curry (Khekda Rassa) Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 kg fresh crab, cleaned and cut

  • 2 onions, finely chopped

  • 1 cup grated coconut

  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste

  • 2 tsp red chili powder

  • 1 tsp turmeric

  • 1 tbsp garam masala (or kala masala)

  • Salt to taste

  • Fresh coriander for garnish

  • 2 tbsp oil

Instructions:

  1. Roast coconut and onions in a pan until golden brown. Grind to a fine paste.

  2. In a deep pan, heat oil and sauté ginger-garlic paste.

  3. Add chopped onions and cook until soft.

  4. Mix in all the dry spices and stir for a minute.

  5. Add ground masala paste and cook until oil separates.

  6. Add crabs and coat them well with the masala.

  7. Add water, cover, and cook for 15-20 minutes.

  8. Garnish with coriander and serve hot with steamed rice or bhakri.
